2010 Chardonnay (June 2012)

2010 Chardonnay

Tasting Notes

Light gold in color with the slightest green hue.  The nose starts with liquid minerals, citrus, a soft spice and you can actually smell the acidity followed by some green apple in the background. Swirling brings intensity with crystallized lemon peel, white blossoms, white peach and hints of dried apricots. The palate has layers of pointed detail, accentuated by lacings of minerality and very energetic acid. The moment it hits your palate, the yin and yang of flesh and texture collide with minerality and acid, and they take you all the way to the finish where the latter win out. This is really fun to drink now, but will evolve beautifully for the next 6-8 years.

Drinkability

The wine should be poured slightly warmer than most white wine, 55-58 degrees. It will be cool but not cold allowing the aromatics to release with more ease. Many young Chardonnay's would do well with a quick decant and then poured back into the bottle to allow it to open in a less open environment like a decanter. This wine will develop nicely over the next 6-8 years picking up weight on the front of the palate and a slow softening of the acid profile. Larger glasses like the standard Red Bordeaux glass would do fine, or the larger Montrachet style white glasses with a very large opening and shallow bowl would suit the wine best.
